Scotty Holland, President
Originally from Southern Ontario, Scotty relocated to Banff in 1978, where he immediately immersed himself into his two lifetime passions: golf and skiing. These pursuits shaped his career, leading him to become a professional instructor and coach in both sports. In March of 2026, Scotty retired from his adult ski coaching programme, Rutrunners, after 31 years of dedicated service. In 2025, he was awarded Life Membership in the PGA of Canada recognizing 38 years of service.
One of Scotty’s proudest accomplishments was contributing to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital Golf for Life fundraiser at the Banff Springs Golf Course. Over four years, the initiative raised more than $400,000. In 2005, he also set the Guiness World record for most holes of golf played on foot in 12 hours – an impressive 221 holes! The record stood for 17 years, and the experience remains one of the most physically demanding and rewarding challenges of his career.
In 2005, in recognition of his athletic contributions, he was honoured as one of the inaugural inductees into the Bow Valley Sports Hall of Fame.
Today, the Banff Springs Golf Course remains Scotty’s all-time favourite course, and it is his privilege to serve as President of the Banff Springs Golf Club.
Doug Macnamara, Vice-President
Doug has been a BSGC member since 1999 and loves the game of golf!
He came to Banff in 1994 to enjoy all that the mountains offer, and to head-up the Banff Centre for Management, which he did for 8 years. With the blessing of the Banff Centre, he split-out several elements from his work there to create Banff Executive Leadership Inc, a Senior Executive Leadership, Board Governance & Strategy focussed Management Consulting Firm. He and his team worked with Fortune 500 companies, government departments/ agencies, major NFP’s, and Indigenous organizations across 18 countries. Today he is about 93% retired and (with his wife Liane), is focussed more on golf, travel, and grandkids!
Doug has a B.Sc. (Biochemistry) & B.Ed. (Outdoor & Experiential Ed.) from Queen’s U; MLE (Mgt Leadership Ed) from Harvard U; plus, his FCMC (Fellow, Certified Management Consultant) and CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader) professional designations.
In 2025 he served as BSGC Men’s Captain, before stepping into the VP role in 2026.
Anne Goulet, Secretary-Treasurer
A longtime resident of Banff, Anne spends her time volunteering, walking, swimming, playing Mah Jongg, entertaining, socializing, travelling and, of course, golfing. She started playing only after retiring and enjoys the challenge of the game and the camaraderie of friends and her husband Gerry. Family is very important to Anne, and her six grandchildren are her pride and joy!
Liane Macnamara, Ladies’ Captain
Liane has been a resident in Banff since 1994. Three years ago, she retired after spending 26 years of teaching high school Math and Science at both the Banff Community High School and Canmore Collegiate. Since retiring Liane has spent her time walking, swimming, working out, travelling with her husband Doug, and of course golfing. Spending time with friends and family is a priority. She is kept very busy whenever her five grandchildren come to town but this keeps her happy, active and young. Liane has been golfing for 12 years and has been a member of the Banff Springs Golf Club for four years. She enjoys the camaraderie, exercise and the challenge of golf and the endless pursuit of lowering her handicap. Getting a hole-in-one a couple of years ago was definitely a highlight and was very motivational. Liane has a Biology degree and an Education degree from Queen’s U.
Jonas Gordon, Men’s Captain
Jonas feels very fortunate to be a third-generation local to the Bow Valley, and feels it is the community and the people in it that truly make this place feel like home. Being able to be part of the Banff Springs Golf Club, a place with such rich history and an incredible group of people, is such an honour. Golf is a big passion of Jonas. His grandfather introduced him to the game at a young age, but it wasn't until he stopped playing hockey that he really caught the bug. A lot of that credit goes to his brother, who played a big part in making him fall in love with the game. Today he is grateful to now serve as Captain of the Men's Division and give back to the golf community in a place that has given him so much.
Ray Horyn, Past-President
Ray has been a Banff Springs Golf Club Member Since 2013
He grew up in small town Alberta and enjoyed playing hockey in the winters and fastball in the summers. He moved away from home at 15 years of age to pursue playing a higher level of hockey, and after a number of years playing Junior A, landed at the University of Lethbridge. With a Bachelor of Education Degree, he moved to Banff in 1994 to join his sister who had already been in Banff for more than a decade. After a short period of teaching, he enjoyed a number of years working in hospitality and then started his career in real estate sales and property management in 2000, which he continues to enjoy to this day. Ray loves the small town feel of Banff along with its provision of so many recreational opportunities – and of course it is one of most spectacular places on the planet. Ray is grateful to live here and be a member of the Banff Springs Golf Club!
